Translator Notes

A new feature added to GMAO is the ability to have "Translator Notes" that are not shown on the auto-edited bubble, but if present put a little numbered subscript on the last word in the bubble, and then put the Translator Note in additional space at the bottom of the image.

To make a Translator Note, start the text of a translation with [Trans. Note]

Only Translator Notes for the currently selected Preferred Language (GMAO -> Options, Appearance panel) are shown and saved in any exported images. I typically use them like this:

  1. Select a new (blank) bubble
  2. "Add New Translation" - put in English text "Here is my translation"
  3. "Add New Translation" - put in Japanese text "[Japanese original text]"
  4. "Add New Translation" - put in my Translation Note: "[Trans. Note] I'm not sure on the word translation here."
Then a small subscript will be added to the bubble, and the translator note will appear down below on any exported image. Javascript pop-ups just have the text in the pop-up as normal.

Customization

You can customize the font, background, and font color via the "Translator Notes" panel in the Options dialouge.

You can't customize the text used to trigged the translator note functionality via the GUI, but it is customizable via the preferences file directly. It is actually just a regular expression that if matched, turns on the code for translator notes. Generally though, just always start the text with [Trans. Note] and you will be ok.
